Roddy Doyle charity wants stories from the frontline
Frontline emergency workers and their families are invited to take part in an all-island creative project run by Fighting Words, the charity founded by novelist and screen writer Roddy Doyle.
The charity runs free creative writing programmes across Ireland to support the personal development of young people – with an emphasis on those experiencing social exclusion.
Fighting Words are running a project to capture the experiences of frontline workers, including gardaí and their families, during the Covid-19 crisis called, 'That One Time'.
They have an open call for submissions of prose, poetry, comics, illustration, and song lyrics.
Submissions can be fiction or non-fiction and in English or Irish.
“We take a very open view of what can be submitted so the subject matter can relate to anything – not just direct experience of living through the pandemic.
“The project aims to create a powerful and significant collection of frontline voices that honours the work and sacrifice of people such as gardai and their families living through this unique period in Irish history,” said Colm Quearney Development & Outreach Officer.
Maximum word counts for age groups apply as follows
- Age 7-9: 500 words
- Age 10-13: 800 words
- Ge 14+: 1000 words
The collection will be published on the Fighting Words website.
